Ys IX: Monstrum Nox PS5 Port Shares Playable Cast Trailer

Publisher NIS America has shared a character trailer for the upcoming native PlayStation 5 release of the Nihon Falcom-developed action JRPG Ys IX: Monstrum Nox.

The game’s playable cast, the Monstrums, are all briefly introduced throughout this video, alongside their Gifts that affect field exploration. Adol Christin, the Crimson King, utilizes Crimson Line to reach higher locations. White Cat’s Heaven’s Run allows the party to run up walls. Doll’s Third Eye unveils potential secrets in the surrounding area.

Raging Bull’s Valkyrie Hammer destroys specific terrain and enables charged attacks. Hawk’s Hunter’s Descent allows the user to glide. And lastly, Renegade’s Shadow Dive moves the party underground, letting them sneak past foes and progress through blocked areas.

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is currently the latest chronological entry in the franchise, where the series protagonist, Adol Christin, is 24 years old. It follows the red-haired hero as he becomes a captive in the prison city of Balduq. Adol quickly becomes a supernatural entity known as a Monstrum, and he allies with those also “gifted” with the power. The group gradually unveils truths regarding the Romun Empire.

Ys IX is the fourth game in the series to utilize the party combat system, meaning that characters other than Adol are playable. In addition, every party member has a specific attack attribute (Strike, Slash, and Pierce) that is highly effective against varying enemies. Further, this entry embraces exploration more than any previous game.
